A tubing and waterfall outing can give your Tamarindo holiday a different setting: a river adventure inland near Curubandé, Liberia. The key planning decision is how much to combine in one day, then allowing for the journey from your accommodation as well as the activities.
Start with the Location
The river tubing outing we coordinate takes place at Finca Curubanda in Curubandé, Liberia. It is not a river activity in Tamarindo town. Tubing follows the Colorado River; the selected route and current conditions shape the experience.
Use the meeting instructions provided with your booking. Searching only for “La Leona Waterfall” can leave you unsure which meeting point applies to your selected operator and combination. Confirm the exact location before driving or arranging a pickup.
Tubing Only or Tubing with La Leona?
Choose the day around what your group actually wants to do. Adding more activities can be worthwhile, but it also adds time and effort. The waterfall visit and the tubing session are separate parts of a combination outing.
| Option | Why choose it? | Check before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Tubing only | You want the river activity to be the main outing. | Meeting time, participation requirements and the total day including travel. |
| Tubing with lunch | You want a meal planned around the river activity. | Which meal is included and how it fits the schedule. |
| La Leona Waterfall and tubing | You want both a guided waterfall visit and river tubing. | The hiking and swimming requirements as well as tubing suitability. |
| Waterfall, tubing and lunch | You want the combined inland day with a meal arranged. | The order of activities, inclusions and return plan. |
Our La Leona Waterfall tour page describes the river hike and canyon swim. Read that part of the outing carefully: enjoying the idea of tubing does not automatically mean every person will be comfortable with the waterfall route.
Allow for the Whole Day, Including Transportation
When comparing plans, ask for the total schedule from pickup to return, not just the activity duration. Your starting accommodation, chosen combination and transport arrangement affect the day. Leave space for changing clothes and lunch when included.
For CRLT’s tubing options, transportation is quoted separately from your accommodation. If you would like help with the journey, request private transportation and send your accommodation location. If you are driving yourself, ask when you should arrive and where to park or meet.
Avoid arranging a tight connection to an airport transfer, another tour or a fixed dinner immediately after the planned return. Ask the coordinator what timing is realistic for your date before committing to another booking.
Is the Outing Suitable for Your Family?
Send children’s ages before reserving. Participation depends on the selected operator’s age, size and other requirements, as well as river conditions. A child price band does not establish the minimum age for an activity.
Explain everyone’s swimming comfort and any concerns about walking on uneven terrain or being in moving water. Ask about the required equipment and guide assistance for each activity. Using a tube or wearing a life jacket does not remove the need to meet the operator’s participation requirements.
For a larger family or group, identify who wants both activities and who might prefer a different plan before requesting a quote. Our group tour coordination can help check the options, but do not assume a non-participant waiting area or a split itinerary is automatically available.
What to Pack for the River Day
- Swimwear and comfortable clothing that can get wet.
- Closed-toe footwear suitable for getting wet, following the operator’s current instructions.
- A towel and a dry change of clothes for the journey back.
- Drinking water and sun protection.
- Only the valuables you need, with storage arrangements confirmed before starting.
The CRLT tubing page lists a guide, dry bag and life jackets. Confirm the equipment included for your selected combination and ask how phones, bags and dry clothes are handled. A dry bag provided for the activity is not a reason to take unnecessary valuables on the river.
How Rain and River Conditions Affect Planning
Rainfall and river conditions can change the outing. The operator decides whether the activities can run and whether the plan needs adjustment. A forecast on your phone is not a substitute for that local assessment.
Ask for the weather and cancellation terms with your quote. Check how you will be contacted about a change and what happens to transport arrangements if an activity cannot run. Do not assume that tubing and the waterfall always operate together under the same conditions.
A Practical Booking Checklist
- Choose tubing only or the waterfall combination, and say whether you want lunch.
- Send the date, adult numbers, children’s ages and accommodation location.
- Share swimming comfort and participation concerns for the whole group.
- Confirm the total schedule, meeting point and transportation arrangement.
- Review the current quote, inclusions, payment steps and cancellation conditions.
